Editorial policy
Local Civic Briefing aims to explain civic processes accurately, plainly and without taking sides on the decisions being discussed. Readers should be able to distinguish explanation, opinion and paid collaboration.
Accuracy and clarity
We check factual statements against relevant material available to us and take care to distinguish general explanations from examples that apply only in a particular place. We make uncertainty clear, avoid implying that one process applies everywhere and revise wording when it risks misleading readers.
Independence
Editorial decisions are made for the publication's readers, not to advance a partner's preferred position. A relationship or payment does not buy control over an editorial conclusion. We do not present advocacy as neutral explanation.
Corrections
If you spot a factual error, unclear distinction or missing qualification, contact us through the Contact page and identify the article and passage. We review correction requests and update material when warranted, making significant changes clear to readers.
Partner material and illustrations
Paid or partner-supported material is clearly labelled so readers can recognise its source and relationship to a collaboration. Such material is kept distinct from independent editorial explanations. Some illustrations may be AI-generated; we identify them where their origin could affect how readers understand an image.
